Taiwan Stock PER Band — where valuation sits in its own history

“Is it cheap or expensive right now?” The PER band places a stock's current valuation inside its own historical distribution — returning the percentile and z-score of PER / PBR / dividend yield. No calls, no price targets.

How to read the PER band

The band is about percentile: rank a stock's PER across its own history, and see which percentile today sits in. Low percentile = cheap vs. its own history; high = expensive. We also give a z-score (standard deviations from the historical mean).

Why own-history percentile beats cross-stock comparison

Fair PER differs wildly by sector — comparing a bank's PER to a semiconductor's is meaningless. Own-history percentile compares each stock to itself, answering the actually-useful question: is this expensive versus its own norm?

See it as a chart

The valuation river chart draws the same percentiles as eight price bands over time, with the close laid on top, so you can see where valuation sat on any past date rather than reading one number today. Free on the demo ticker, no signup.

How this differs from a charting app's PE band

Most charting tools draw historical PER from restated earnings: when a filing is revised, the old value is overwritten in place, so the band you see quietly encodes numbers the market did not have at the time. Backtest a valuation rule on that and the results are inflated by information leakage you never chose to use.

Every row in our valuation panel carries a snapshot stamp. Query a historical date and you get the version that was actually public on that date, so a percentile computed for 2024-03-15 is the percentile a trader could have computed on 2024-03-15.

Honest limit: a low percentile is not the same as cheap. A stock can sit at the bottom of its own historical band because earnings are about to fall off a cliff, in which case the multiple is low for a reason. The band reports position, never whether the position is justified, and we publish no price targets or calls either way.
