Data sources & licensing

Source attribution

Data sources: Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE), Taipei Exchange (TPEx), and the Market Observation Post System (MOPS), among Taiwan open-government data listings, used under the Open Government Data License, Taiwan, v1 (GODL v1).

Derived works

The operator retains editorial copyright over derived works (snapshot series, scores, factors, structured summaries). Externally we serve only open-licensed listed sources and our own derived works; we do not resell non-official raw values. Every API response carries source attribution and is fully auditable.

Terms of use

This site is a data tool; screeners and scores are not investment advice and not trading signals. Official figures are as published by the competent authorities.

Licensing status, source by source

This table is computed live from the site's current coverage state rather than hard-coded — when a licensing status changes, this changes with it. 6 sources in total, 3 of which are served externally under an open license.

How to attribute data from this site

GODL v1 §3 requires visible attribution. Either string below can be copied straight into a paper footnote, a report appendix or an application's data-sources page. Pick the one your readers can read — they carry the same legal effect.

English attribution string

Data source: Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE), Taipei Exchange (TPEx) and the Market Observation Post System (MOPS), used under the Open Government Data License, Taiwan, version 1 (GODL v1); snapshot series and derived works produced by 8888fortune.com.

If you use only this site's derived works (scores, factors, structured summaries), attribute this site as the source of those derived works in addition to the attribution above. Every API response carries source attribution as a field, so this can be read programmatically rather than transcribed by hand.

Derived works and redistribution boundaries

We do not resell raw values

What we serve externally is official material listed under an open license, plus what we compute ourselves. What we do not do is buy non-open raw values and sell them on — that data is not ours, and the right to pass it to you is not ours to give.

Derived works remain ours

Snapshot series, scores, factors and structured summaries are editorial works and their copyright is retained by this site. You may use them in research and in products as long as you attribute them, but not repackage them as a competing database for sale.

Every response is auditable

The API envelope carries a source-attribution field on every response, mapping row by row onto the matrix on this page. You do not have to take this page's word for it — you can work back to the licensing basis from the data you actually received.

Edge cases go to the mailbox

The boundaries above cover the overwhelming majority of research and product uses. If yours sits on the line — wholesale redistribution, say, or embedding into a data product you sell — write to [email protected] rather than guess.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this data commercially?

For sources marked GODL v1, the licence itself permits commercial use, including reproduction, adaptation and redistribution, provided the source is visibly attributed. We add no further restriction on those sources. To be precise, though: a permissive licence is not the same as clearance for your particular use. This page states the licensing status of the data, not a legal conclusion about your situation. For anything material or borderline, ask your counsel rather than a web page.

How do I attribute this in a paper or research report?

Copy either string from the attribution section above — both are written to be quoted verbatim. If you use only our derived works, such as scores or factors, also name 8888fortune.com as the source of those derived works alongside the underlying attribution.

Why are some sources marked as not served externally?

Three reasons. Some are derived structured works built on public disclosures, where serving raw values would mean passing on something that is not ours to pass on. Some come from official sources whose open-data listing status we are still confirming item by item, and until that is settled we take the conservative reading. Some are simply still being built. Those three are used inside the site's own features and stay outside the external API. A tidier matrix would be easy; knowing where the line sits is more useful.

Are these official raw figures, or have they been altered?

Official sources served externally keep their original values: no smoothing, no gap filling, no back-filling of later restatements. What we add is freezing the version available on each trading day — a point-in-time snapshot — so a figure you query for a past date is the version genuinely visible that day rather than the corrected one published later. Correctness of the official figures themselves is as published by the competent authorities.

If licensing status changes, does this page follow?

Yes, automatically. The matrix on this page is computed from the site's live coverage state rather than maintained by hand. When a source's external-serving status changes, the next person to open this page sees the new status — nobody has to remember to come back and edit it.
